Well, damn... I'm going to have a lot of fun picking out my equipment. Why? Because when I was spending my xp and building my Tech-Priest, I took the Adeptus Mechanicus as a trusted contact that can offer favours. Then I checked the rules for favours.

In order to obtain a favour, you make an intelligence or fellowship test (in my case, Intelligence, which with four advances is 66), with a +5 bonus for each rank you possess. If you pass the test, the favour is granted. Thing is, as a Rank 7 character with an intelligence of 66, I have a 101% chance that my favour will be granted, and as the contact is Trusted I never suffer any penalties to the test.

In other words, I have the full might, knowledge and resources of the Adeptus Mechanicus at my disposal. Holy crap....

I don't expect this to win every situation - Frank is a good enough GM to keep it challenging even at such levels - but all the same, damn, this should be fun...

I don't mean to cast aspersions on your character, Maugan Ra, but I have a sneaking suspicion that story is somewhat chronologically reversed. ;)

Nevertheless, the idea of a 'group' as opposed to an individual means that you can't really pick the entire organisation, because that's plain silly. You've got Mechanicus contacts on every planet across the Calixis sector? For 50xp? Really? That's how it works?

Which is to say, yes, the 101% highly reliable thing stands, but it has to be a bit more specific. An Arbites precinct house is a 'group'. An Explorator fleet's 'The 1010011100100ers Select Gentlemen's Club' (though at quite a severe stretch) is a group.

Also, I'm still considering giving you an Influence score; it might be worth considering pitches for Elite Advances for some Influence Talents.

A highly personable/well-associated Techpriest ought to be a lot of fun indeed. As per Phil's Father Dorn, it'd be handy to have an idea of the 'affiliation details' of the characters: e.g. is this techpriest a genetor, a microbian, a nano-master, a shipwright, a luminant, an empyreanite, an explorator, an archaexenologist, an exile, a one-man-shrine...?

George, how the devil did you manage to get that much stuff for your techpriest wench? I'm fairly sure that you can't use contact-based discounts when you're spending your starting cash, and even then, that's a good ten grand you've dropped there, at least.

Went over it. Turns out you 1- can take the entire Ad Mech as a contact, but also 2- Maugan Ra has already repeatedly taken liberties. As noted: using Favours for starting stuff. :|

But, since we're starting at 9k, Favours do seem reasonable. Sure, he's taking them to extremes, but it's not unexpected. The Omnissian was revoked because it blatantly says "cannot be obtained deliberately", which is a severe finger-wag at her. And as it was (attempted) come-by in favours, will reflect a little badly on her too; she's known to be a chancer.

Anyhow, that's that for now. Dan: Your character?

I was thinking of another techpriest, to be honest, but from the complete opposite angle - Magos Biologis, possibly dipping into the Genetor rank at some point with GM approval. After all, when it comes down to it, the body is a biological machine, and a rather astounding one at that.

I'd be down with that. Take 'Genetor' from Rogue Trader as a Rank 7 for Dark Heresy (rather than Rank 8 it corresponds to in RT). If you're interested in actually having Fel advances, as per Vastly's old route, simply switching the Techpriest characteristic advance scheme for the Explorator one works fine for me.

NB: By the looks of it, I think Mech-Deacon's large amount of Trade-skills models nicely for the Rank 6 precursor to Genetor.

Ooh, a gooey bio-tech priest? Awesome.

Mmmm, Draigan and Dorn seem to be the only non- ad mech related characters in the roleplay. This seems to lend itself to an ad mech focussed campaign perhaps, with Dorn tagging along, and Draigan loaned to the priests for this arc? I dunno. Whatever you come up with will be awesome I am sure xisor.

As explained, I can indeed have a contact that is an Adeptus, provided I have the related Peer talent as well (which is a rank 3 advance for Tech Priests). As for the large amount of bionics, that's pretty much representative of what she's picked up over however many years of working as an Emissary for the Mechanicus and reaching a step below Magos - being mostly metal is entirely expected by that point, which was how I justified the favours.

Any non-bionic equipment, however, I will buy with my alloted cash as normal. And it seems reasonable that Karna is known as being especially keen on the bionics, taking full advantage of whatever her rank allows her to acquire (and pushing her luck a bit more beyond)... how different Tech-Priests view this, I naturally leave up to our GM.

Which I will defer, in the first instance, to our other Tech-Priest. ;)

Incidentally, I think the bionics/Favour thing is pleasantly working in my favour in terms of setting up the game. Notably, it's motivated my other thoughts for the other characters.

Rab's to get some 'potentially valuable odds and ends' (which I'll PM him his starting knowledge of prior to game beginning).
Dorn's custodian of the remainder of his reliquaries which he was originally dispatched with.
The Genetor will have...something.
I think LL's chappie will be inheritor of the Inquisition's secular/institutional values. And possibly equipment, but I've not thought that through yet.

Greetings all.

Frank has very kindly added me into the mix and is currently helping me define my character for this RP (and there goes the neighbourhood...), but I thought I'd post up my rough sketch for my character so far: A close combat oriented assassin character of a sect known as the Moritat Reapers, who essentially specialise in close combat with bladed weapons. They're also of quite a pious bent, so he's somewhat philosophical about his work, though he isn't, I should point out, a full blown fanatic.

That's all there is for now, but I'm looking forward to doing some gaming in future.

Good to have you on board, Colonel! A Moritat Reaper should make a great addition to the group - at least it's not another bloody techie... :P

Right folks, though folks were involved at a few different levels, I was broadly impressed with the roles played by everyone tonight. *Hopefully* we'll no longer need to mine clues as much as this evening, but on the otherhand, I also hope I've got you reasonably acclimatised to the setting.

Which should also mean: hopefully next week will see...
- More opposition to what you're up to. (Tonight's was pretty linear, though you could've picked a few different routes, I'm somewhat glad you went for the obvious ones.)
- More layers to it.
- More 'intrigue' on the hows/whats/whys of things.
- More!

Hell, depending on how the cards are played, you might even end up in a scrap or five.

But, as said, I'm quite happy with whatcha did tonight, so feel happy giving a straight 300xp apiece. It's low-key, sure, but I've my eye on you lot for 'big things', and hopefully big things will become more accessible too.

---

Next time on Lind

From the closing discussion with Maugan Ra, Corrigan Phoenix and Colonel Mustard, the plan would seem to be:
1- Visit & investigate the Zeppelin
2- Then visit the 'Mechanicuniversity' where the Omniprophets died and poke around there (access secured by Karna).
