Just finished Corax: Soulforge.

Spoiler: D'awwwwwwwwww. The end was touching and almost sweet. *sniffles* How nice that for once Corax got almost a hug. He needed one.

Just one question:

Will Agapito's 'issues' eventually be addressed? And will he talk about them with Branne? Because I can't see that ending well if he keeps going like that... :?
"You were a warleader, a fighter, when did you gain such illuminating insight into the minds of others?"
"I learned such things as you and your brothers applied brand to my flesh and parted skin with rasp and knife," snarled Astelan. "When your witches tried to prise open my mind they opened me for an instant and I stared back."

Spoiler: Those few words will probably end up having a more devastating effect on Corax than any number of lascannon shots and powerfists punches to the face... Because they are true.

There is certainly still a lot of healing required, for Agapito and most of the legion.

Thanks for the answer. Poor, poor Corax.

Spoiler: No country for good men? ;)

Might Dark Angel Chief Librarian Ezekiel show up in the next Legacy of Caliban book?

Hi Gav! I was wondering if you could shed some light on a question that arose from "Deliverance Lost". The following passage is from pages 247 and 248:

Spoiler: 'Yes, you have brothers,' said the Emperor, smiling at his son's delight. 'Seventeen of them. You are the primarchs, my finest creations.'

'Seventeen?' Corvus asked, confused. 'I remember that I was number nineteen. How can that be so?'

The Emperor's expression grew bleak, filled with deep sorrow. He looked away as he replied.

'The other two,' he said. 'That is a conversation for another day.'

Based on http://z13.invisionfree.com/The_First_Expedition/index.php?showtopic=136&st=15, a post by Laurie Golding, Corax is the 18th Primarch to be discovered. This is especially interesting since the next Primarch to be discovered is one of the Lost Two, which, to me, implies that whatever happened to the IInd (or XIth) Primarch would not have yet happened at the time of Corax's conversation with the Emperor.

This leads to my question: when the Emperor mentions 17 other Primarchs, and two being a "conversation for another day", is he talking about two Primarchs who are yet to be discovered (i.e. the unknown Primarch and Alpharius/Omegon), or he talking about the missing IInd/XIth Primarchs? If it is the latter, will the conversation between Corax and the Emperor be revised in future editions of "Deliverance Lost", or is it indicative of some kind of foreknowledge by the Emperor?

I realize that you may not be at liberty to say, but if you can answer this question, it would be very illuminating. Thank you in advance! :)

Just read The Honour of the Third. Nice. I love the irony.

Spoiler: Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them... ;)

Clearly, Belial is of the last sort, killing a Chaos Champion pretty much by accident.

Yup. I was stumped thinking how naff Furion would look if this awesome Champion of Khorne was bested in a fight by a space marine captain, so the one-on-one duel didn't really work for me. Honestly, if I had a longer story to write, Belial would have 'personally defeated' Furion with a combination of tactics and long range firepower without actuallymeeting him. The 1k words format needed something a bit... punchier for an ending.

I'm gonna be honest - I did not really enjoy Honour of the Third.

To me, the story about Belial's heroism and Furion's Black Crusade would have been more suited to a full novel, maybe a Space Marine Battles entry, rather than a 1000 word story depicting the climax.
I'd have loved to read Belial's character being developed more in-depth, before he is the hero, and seen the Black Crusade in its hotter stages. Furion did not appear... menacing enough. There are plenty of Chaos Lords bringing war to the Imperium, but not many who can claim their own Black Crusade, and thus I was somehow disappointed by the duel between him and Belial.

Now, my question would be why this particular scene was picked for the Angels of Death series, rather than, let's say, another tidbit for the Legacy of Caliban (speaking of which, I am impatiently waiting for Master of Sanctity)?

I enjoy your Dark Angels a lot, but did not feel like Honour of the Third played to their strengths, due to the restrictions of the format. I thought it showed Belial's tendency of self-chastisement well, but as I said, I feel there was much more potential to be made use of via a different format.
Likewise, I think the 1000 word format lends itself especially well to experimental stories, so I was somehow expecting something playing with the secretive nature of the Angels.

What made you pick this particular scene from Belial's rise through the ranks of the Dark Angels?
Would you have liked to write a full novel on Furion and co, if you didn't have this much on your plate already?

Hey Gav,

Master of Sanctity looks great, and Asmodai looks terrifying. My question is based on this image;

Now it may just be me but the book looks much fatter than most paperbacks in BL's new size format. Is Master of Sanctity a five-hundred page book?

Also will the book show Asmodai's hardass-disciplinarian side??

My hope is that his disciplinarian side is done justice. I have to be honest: I wasn't fond of the background he was given in his "Warlords of the Dark Millennium" entry. It seemed over the top for the sake of being over the top.

Hi Gav, I've got all of your limited edition novellas for the Raven Guard and have really enjoyed the depth in which you've fleshed them out.

I was wondering if you could describe what the Therion Cohort looks like? Atm I'm just going off the idea they are a bit fancy and kind of roman-esque due to the Caesari rank. I was looking at the recently previewed Solar Auxilia models from the Horus Heresy Weekender and was wondering whether they'd be anything like them as I'm quite tempted to add some Therion Cohort's to my Raven Guard HH army. Also during this period do you know what Knightly Houses and/or Titan Legions would be working with the Raven Guard?

412 pages, the same as Ravenwing (yes, this reply is very late, sorry for that!).

As I am responsible for both, I can say with some confidence that Asmodai is certainly hardline, but I hope it comes across as believable in Master of Sanctity. There's a difference between what can be conveyed over the course of 1,000 words of background text covering a whole lifetime and the subtleties of character and motivation made possible by concentrating on a single incident across the breadth of a novel.

It was great fun to write Asmodai, particularly in contrast to Sapphon, and I hope readers enjoy their interactions.

Cheers,

Thank you for the kind words. I've always only had a vague image of soldiers in a lorica segmentata-style carapace suit, with romanesque style crests and heroic cuirass for the officers, more of a Rogue Trader-era feel.

Some of these are quite nice (in terms of the officers and breastplates and general colour style): http://theottovonbismark.wordpress.com/ ... of-1989th/

As for knights and Titans, I deliberately haven't gone there, it's more Forge World's territory.

edit The start of Deliverance Lost mentions the Legios Victorum and Adamantus.

Thanks! :)
Edit: I just read The Divine Word again and I found another Legion, called Legio Vindictus, which I think is a new legio.
