Threadomancy and Unanswered posts?

Postby nomsheep » Mon Nov 26, 2012 12:35 am

If a old post hasn't been answered at all and you reply to it, is it still threadomancy?

I think at that point it becomes necroposting, the most foul and unholy of all posting types.

In more seriousness, it probably depends on the topic. If it's on an old debate topic, then that's worse than critiquing an old bit of work.

I could be way off the mark here but, provided it's of some relevance and content (i.e. not just a one-line post very slightly expanding on the theme of 'yes' or 'no'), then I see no reason to worry about 'dead threads' and necromancy. Topics are topics and interesting chitchat's interesting chitchat. 8-)

(Of course, if there's time-dependence in the thread, I suppose the necromancy might come into it, but broadly speaking for the more general threads, I foresee no trouble.)

Open the zombie-conversation floodgates! :P

We are pretty relaxed about threadomancy on the Bolthole. Bring on the zombie thread.

I think you're in the clear either way mate. All that "threadomancy" stuff is for forums that take themselves far more (and too) seriously than this forum does. If anyone ever accuses you of such, just politely point out that they just bumped a reanimated thread to call you a threadomancer, so they're just encouraging you, you disgusting dead-thing tinkerer.

I once went six months back to revive a dead argument on the Starcraft II forums.

...

It was hilarious. :D

Nothing wrong with threadmancy. I'd rather that than have a dozen threads all about the same thing over and over again. Generally, if someone starts a new thread about something that's already been brought up on the forum, forumites usually post links tot he older threads, so the debate/conversation can continue.

But to be honest, it isn't a real concern of mine personally. If you want to start a new thread, ok, if not, post int he old thread. Nobody is going to be that aggrieved I think... ;)
Check out my debut fantasy novel from Fox Spirit Books, The Hobgoblin's Herald (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hobgoblins-Herald-R-Aston/dp/1910462047). If you've read it, please rate and review it on amazon; I'd be eternally grateful. The sequel, Eater of Names, is out in 2018, so watch this space.

My Eisenhorn and Dawn of war threads are good examples of what LL cites
"Huron-Fal’s systems were on the verge of shutdown ... ‘This death,’ rasped the voder, ‘this death is ours. We choose it. We deny you your victory.’

"Abandon your fear. Look forward. Move forward and never stop. You'll age if you pull back. You'll die if you hesitate."

"From iron cometh strength. From strength cometh will. From will cometh faith. From faith cometh honour. From honour cometh iron." "And may it ever be so"

Over on Warseer, I was shocked to find myself reading (and only sometimes disagreeing, to the verge of posting a response to!) my eight-years-younger self! :o

Thanks, Internet. Welcome to the future, young, 2006-era Xisor!

What a terrible monster that young hellion pastXisor is!

(Also, bloody hell, Sephiroth! I remember him! Does he still post on Warseer?)

Haven't seen him in a good long while. Reminded me that there might be a ton of good folks likely still active at the Specialist Games forums, if only I could remember where I left them. (Somehow, I doubt specialist-games.com'll do the trick!)

Eh, you're threadomancing to reply specifically to one person, instead of re-energising the topic, than I'd say it is.

Then surely replying to said attempt would also be threadomancy? ;)

If Rob had started a new topic just to say that line, that in my view would be worse than simply posting it here. It'd also lose some effect as a joke, but now it works, and is sort of amusing, so yay!
