Dark Heresy Character Background

Postby TheReaperman » Sun Nov 26, 2017 12:13 am

A first for me to write anything and have others read it. This is a background intro for a Dark Heresy character of mine.

++ Begin Interview++

++Subject: Vaskellen Tannhauser ++

++ Yeah, that's me. Corporal, 309th Nibian Infantry. Grew up in a Hive, worked the middle levels as a Machine Monkey....you know, I'd duck into the machines when they jammed, or when spoil fell through. You had to be nimble to get in and out without losing a limb to the gears and chains. I was twelve or thirteen maybe when the tithe came. Ten-Thousand recruits to fight for the Emperor, Over the Skies and Far Away as the song goes. You know the one..++

++ SUBJECT BEGINS TO HUM ++

++ Continue transcript ++

++ So I went through Basic, seemed to have a whatchamacallit with the weapons...an aptitude yeah. Took to the life even though I was young. Some of the older enlisted took me under their wings and showed me the ropes. 'Course I was small of stature, found sneaking easy. Was able to get into places I shouldn't, grabbed extra supplies, rations...you know, whatever helped. Got caught once...only once mind you, and the Commissar, Emperor Bless 'im gave me 30 lashes and sent me to the scouts. Once again I had an aptitude...took to it like a Razorbill to a Scum-sump. ++

++ SUBJECT LIGHTS A IHO-STICK AND BEGINS TO SMOKE ++

++ Not long after we went to fight the Emperor's enemies for the first time. Secessionists they were...came to be know as the Antares Maelstrom War. I was fifteen or so. Spent a lot of time infiltrating lines, spying on enemy movements and doin' recce. 'course, from there it was a short step to killing my first man. Was easy too, he never knew I was there until he was fighting for breath and bleeding his life away. So, I was an excellent sneak, and enjoyed the army life...but klling, well killing was my calling. I've killed so many since then. Eliminating sentries, officers and specialists. Most of the time I was operating so far ahead of the companies that it might as well have been a suicide mission. Still, I didn't mind, you know? Every life I took was an enemy of the Emperor and to Mankind. ++

++ SUBJECT GAZES INTO PIC THIEF ++

++ Did that for six years...so many places..so many kills. Then you came for me. Dunno who you are but I know that strings were pulled. You ripped me from my comrades and the life I was good at. You put me on a shuttle and brought me to here...wherever here is. ++

++ SUBJECT STUBS OUT IHO-STICK ON THE DESK ++

++ So I find out now that the company, the ENTIRE company died on the wire three days after I left. I should of died there with them. But you pulled me away....The Emperor spared me. So now I got only one question...++

++ SUBJECT STARES INTO THE PIC-THIEF AGAIN ++

++ Who do I have to kill to get out of here?... ++

Really enjoyed this, myself. :)

I've always had strong opinions about characters as I build them, but found it difficult to pin them down (and to subsequently stick to the script!). This seems like it would be very effective for fixing the idea as a living, breathing person!
