What exactly types of stories are they?

They are both science fiction shorts. "Exile" is a rather melancholic piece I wrote, exploring a different possibility of settling other planets (hint is in the name, and no, it is not as straightforward) - written in form of a letter from one such colonist to someone back on Earth.

"The Great Bear" is a science fiction/alternate history hybrid with an interesting backstory. A couple of years ago, a heavy metal band I am friends with (Silencer - for anyone into thrash/heavy metal, I would highly recommend them, their website is at http://www.silencer.cc) asked me to help them with the storyline of a concept album. I ended up participating in the album as well by performing few spoken word segments on one of the tracks... which is why you have grammatically correct, unaccented Russian conversation on one of the songs!

As a result, the story is essentially tied to the album's storyline, which deals with alternate Soviet response to US landing on the Moon. To say more would be to spoil the story. I should note that while the story and the album do tie in together, they are in fact separate entities (and yes, I did run all of this by the band before even considering submitting it - the story was published with their full knowledge and support).
