I'm thinking about going,Nottingham is up the road from me and I could get a lift there then get a bus back into Nottingham to get a train home but the ticket price seems a little steep. Will there be day tickets available? If not £75 for the privilege of buying Black Libraries books a bit early and hearing a discussion or two doesn't contrast well with something like Em-Con (sci/fi/comic etc convention) that cost a tenner for the day at the Nottingham arena.
I suppose I could buy a couple of extra copies of The Warmaster and flog them on ebay to recoup the cost.

they won't do day tickets if previous events are anything to go by.

It isn't the cheapest thing and I always find that the geeking out over breakfast and after the event with the fine folks of the bolthole and others is arguably the best bit of the events but the authors are all dead cool (even Gav) and so enthused about the settings and the stories they get to tell that the "discussion or two" has real value to it (at least to me).

Yep - that's my inclination too, Schafe. I think made because the bulk of those heckling for it really get a kick from the (bizarre, but adorable) socialising surrounding the event, rather than the strict day events and available books. (The thrill of books early is good.)

*Having said that*, I absolutely think people (well: me, possibly others) would be *totally* happy to pick up books on the day and hand them over if you stroll up outside! (NB this not intend on an industrial basis!) Signings and whatnot is more hassle, but you never know - there may well be people available and willing!

I've booked to attend. This will be my first Weekender having previously attended a couple of 1 day Black Library Lives.

I enjoyed those days so much that I think I was always going to try the Weekender, at least this once. It isn't cheap but compared to other hobbies ( Golf, Following a football team etc ) it feels fine to me. Especially when I read these books every day, I feel like I should be there :D

I'm excited for the event and to see how different the 2 day format is.

I'm hoping for some more fantasy seminars given the extra time there will be.

Then one day at Istvaan III,
Horus came to say.
"Fulgrim with your clothes so bright,
won't you help me slay tonight?"
Then all the rebels loved him
And they shouted out with glee.

you'll go down in history!"

Will be there... and this time, hopefully there won't be a Panthers game on the Saturday evening, so I can actually attend the 'fun' evening bit! :D

Update on guests today and looks like we have a wild Werner flying in, plus a number of the usual suspects.

We'll also be the first to get our hands on Nick Kyme's Old Earth and Guy Haley's Shield of Baal.

The full schedule is out people!

http://www.blacklibrary.com/Home/BL-weekender-2017.html

So the events I simply must see are:

The Horusian Wars with John French
Cultures of the Mortal Realms with C.L Werner, Josh Reynolds and David Guymer
Sound and Fury: Future audio-dramas with Gav Thorpe, James Swallow and George Mann
Road to Terra: The final stages of the Horus Heresy with ADB, Dan Abnett, John French and Chris Wraight
Writing Stormcast Eternals with C.L Werner, David Guymer and Josh Reynolds
Forged in War: Creation and Development of a Space Marine Chapter with ADB and Robbie MacNiven

Creating Anti-Heroes with ADB, Gav Thorpe, Josh Reynolds and C.L Werner
Xenos in Black Library with Andy Clark and Gav Thorpe
To Walk in Dark Places: The Forthcoming Eisenhorn Anthology with Dan Abnett

So yeah... it's going to be a busy weekend. Have to find time to get 47 books, so far, signed as well.

Jeez, LotN - you certainly know how to have a relaxing weekend! 8-) :)

I'm really excited about it. Only a month and a half - should be great!

I did observe a little thing - it's not 100% male panels. Charlotte Llewelyn-Wells is on the schedule too. I don't recall seeing her name in print, so I guess a new author/editor? We'll find out in due course, no doubt.

I do don't I. :D

Considering the panel is about submissions and pitches I would guess she's an editor. Offer advice from both sides of the subject.

I believe she is the reasonably new submissions editor.

Anyway all looks good, usual mix of what I expected to be on the books. Certainly nice to see more of the Audio stuff with one of the voices rather than just the authors.

But good luck carrying around 47 books LotN, that'll be backbreaking just getting to the venue never mind anywhere else.

It's what suitcases are for, for me at least. I'll probably leave the majority of them in the hotel room and only carry the ones I planned to get signed it the next few hours or so. Go to the room at lunch and take another selection down for the signings in that period.

So we all ready and raring to go for the Weekender?

Apart from a last minute rush to pack Friday morning I'm sorted with the seminars and signings I'm most interested in. Interestingly enough I've a nice period of a couple of hours on the Saturday afternoon where I could quite happily find a nice little spot to get stuck into Warmaster, or nip out for food, or both. For me I would say the Sunday is the better day, couple of lovely little seminars with Chris Wraight and Dan Abnett. The latter being of particular interest.

There's also not a lot on the must purchase list, only Devasation of Baal and Warmaster make it, though I'm sure a few others will sneak in. There's been a couple of the limited editions that I've not picked up which may have been found in some dusty corner of the warehouse.

Of course the main reason to go is for the lovely lovely people and the bar banter, for sure can't wait to see faces old and new again.

What's on everyone elses list to see and do?
