Warmaster and Urdesh still coming

Postby Duke_Leto » Sun Jan 22, 2017 6:41 pm

Matthew Farrer has just confirmed today on his blog that...

"More Snakes are on the way. Dan and I are working on the fine points of the Urdesh/Warmaster connections at the moment – I think it’s going to turn out pretty well."

Which is great news! Maybe we will actually see these two books in 2017!!!!!!

YES! :) Excellent news.

A mate of mine chatted to Dan at a book signing recently, who apparently said the next Gaunt's Ghosts book was written...

Black Library have confirmed Warmaster for December 2017.

It has been a loooooooong wait but at last it is confirmed. Still almost a year away though sigh!

Assume this means Urdesh will also be released in December? That is my Xmas reading sorted lol

With it being so long away, it might mean I have a chance of cutting down the to-be-read pile and the reading shelf.

2017 is shaping up to be the best 40k year from BL in absolutely ages. So many books I will be buying but...

Now toying with the idea of re-reading every GG novel in prep for Warmaster.

Only so much time and so much to read!!!!

Nice problems to have lol

I'd love to re-read them all as a memory refresh, however the big issue is how big the to-read pile is. Might make time to re-read Necropolis though, as that is an old one I have fond memories of.

Right have decided to take the plunge. It's gonna be hard as so many new releases from BL I want to read as well in 2017 but...

17 Sabbat Worlds related books to read. Allowing 2 per mon between now and the release of Warmaster (and hopefully Urdesh) I think I can just about do it :D

Going to read semi chronologically so starting with a couple of the stories in Ghostmaker before going back to First and Only (not going to get into a pickle pulling out the stories in the anthologies as too complicated!)

Weirdly quite excited to be revisiting old friends 8-)

First and Only done!

Ghostmaker (interspersed with Of Their Lives in the Ruins of Their Cities) done!

Oh it is so good to be back with these characters 8-)

Necropolis finished earlier this week and now part way through Honour Guard.

Oh my had I forgotten how awesome Necropolis is. Abnett takes an interesting approach as some of the book reads like a historical text. Loved the book though...especially the foreshadowing (probably not intentional at that stage) of what would become of some characters.

Not sure if anyone else spotted this but on Twitter Matt Farrer confirmed he has not yet finished Urdesh and has asked ADB if he can borrow the Arnogaur. Nice!

Considering all the other stuff in life I am certainly making good progress...and really loving it. Great to be fully immersed in the GG books.

Just finished Guns of Tanith. Obviously I knew what happened at the end BUT it still kicks you in the guts losing a great character!

Straight a Silver next!

Finished Straight Silver over Easter. According to Dan Abnett's foreword in the omnibus lots of people do not like this story?

I loved it. Sixth GG book I have read back-to-back so far and the one I actually enjoyed the most (apart from Necropolis)!

The one criticism I could level is more about the 40k setting as a whole really. The war on Aexe Cardinal was clearly analogous to the WWI trench warfare on the western front. It created a great story but I couldn't help but keep thinking...

Why not achieve that objective with either an airstrike or get the Navy to fire a few targeted lance shots from orbit?

But hey ho...

Sabbat Martyr underway.

Sorry guys I realise this is becoming a bit of a Duke Leto solo book club but...

Sabbat Martyr finished. Man that was good. The ending was terrific and brought a tear to my eye and lump to my throat. Wow, just wow. Got a distinct feeling we are going to see Milo again!!!

Going to take a slight deviation but stay with the Sabbat Worlds and read Double Eagle next as it fits chronologically. Then on to my personal favourite...Traitor General.

Double Eagle finished and...wow!

Obviously I read his before some years back. However, reading this in amongst the GG books was a great experience. What a book. Total edge of the seat most of the time. Makes me so long for Dan Abnett to actually write the follow up Interceptor City. Simply cannot recommend this book enough!

And now I am starting Traitor General which I have always considered to be my personal favourite GG book, be interesting reading these all back-to-back whether this is still the case.

Traitor General finished. Wow wow wow! Still my favourite book. Amazing and frightening. Wonderful read and so full of surprises (mostly for what Abnett did NOT do rather than what was expected).

Had a two week GG hiatus as applied for job, got interview and had to do tonnes of preparation (massive job, big jump up)...

Found out today I didn't get it :(

Apparently I did a good interview (which was a whole day with assessment centre, facilitating three focus groups, presentation and interview) but they went with someone with more experience (making a sideways move).

Oh well.

Starting His Last Command :)

His Last Command finished. Better than I remember. Always liked it but still not one of my favourite GG books. I think because you could guess the twist early on and the return of Gaunt to the Ghosts was inevitable taking away some of the drama.

Starting Armour of Contempt.
